Make hay while the sun shines (and by hay I mean weird alien flora).

Made some freaky plant terrain, check them out.

That's only using half the aquarium plants I bought too! Making them was simply a matter of creating six large bases and hot-gluing cut up pieces of store bought plastic plants to them.

I made this dude (above) just for funs. He will crop up in Rogue Trader games as a local guide/adventurer type. I butchered a Russian sailor that had sat in a box for a really, really long time and rebuilt him with spares from various plastic boxed sets (WF Apocalypse Survivors, Warlord/Bolt Action Commandos and Perry's ACW infantry).

Here is the squad of ten Space Marines I will be taking to Oldhammer BOYL for Coop Devil's RT game. I couldn't bring myself to spray them white, still lots of practice to go before I get the hang of painting OS style, and I will be using the green Dark Angels colour scheme rather the 80's black too. :( Sorry everyone. Expect some individual shots soon as they come off the conveyor belt.

I have updated the way you post comments on this blog too by the way, I hope it makes things easier as I have turned off captcha. You must be a member of the blog though. Let me know if this doesn't suit any of you. There may be some weird spam comments up occasionally as a result, I will deal with them as and when. I look forward to reading comments from all my robot fans.*UPDATE* I have had to tweak the settings a bit after some technical difficulties, I think comments is back in business now. *UPDATE*

Minimal painting this week, I know other parts of the globe are a lot hotter at the moment than the UK but I get listless and irritable if it creeps above 19. I've eaten salad twice this week as I totally lost my appetite. *UPDATE* Three salads! :( *UPDATE*

Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Many thanks Andrew! He was never going to see the light of day as a Russian sailor despite what all those nice girls say. By amputating his hands and decapitating him I gave him a new lease of life though! Photo of finished product to follow.

  2. Nice work on the Alien herbage - are those CD bases?

That's a fun looking conversion - Dr Deadstone I presume?

I think we can forgive you for going green as those are some classic Space Marines there!

    1. Oops - I meant Dr Deadrock!

Took me several go's to publish the comment for some reason and I still messed the play on the name up!

    2. Hi T, thanks for the kind words.

Yes, they are CDs. I have several dozen in my treasure hoard so I have been using them quite a bit for the Boone's Landing terrain.

Dr Deadstone! That's a cool name that's going to stick. Far better than Utah Smith anyways. BTW, did you know there is a Doctor Who novel called 'The Deadstone Memorial'? I thought that was where you were coming from for a split second before I got the joke.

No doubting the retro-cred of those bad boys that's for sure. Genuine 80's lead.

    3. Deadrock is even better. Let me know if you have any more issues posting comments, I played around with the settings today to make things easier and in spectacular Google style things just got worse. Hopefully all sorted now.

    4. I haven't heard of that particular Dr Who novel - is it one of the newer ones or a missing adventure perhaps?

      No further issue so far!

      Good old Google!

    5. It was a BBC book and was released in 2004. It features the 8th (McGann) Doctor. That series can be a bit hackneyed at times but they are generally quite good fun.

Glad we are back in business!

    1. Thanks very much!

They are sat there, taunting me. Too tired to start right now though. I want to begin painting them tomorrow if possible.

    1. Oh God, maybe I broke the whole interweb?

Thanks for the compliment. I am using the alien flora tomorrow night in a game and I'm looking forward to it.

  5. Outrageous colours, made from scratch, looking like perfect alien flora? Yep, that ticks every box for a good RT scenery piece.
I admit it took me a few secons to get the Deadrock thing.
For the painting of the marines, did you intend to spray white over the base colour to give some zenithal lighting? I've just tried the technique with RT renegades and it turns out pretty easy and very good looking compared to what i thought.

    Very good job

    1. Hehe, thanks very much.

I was teaching a friend to use an airbrush just last week and I told him about your zenithal highlighting efforts as an example of things to try. I've still not done it before so I need to have a go on a couple of test models. I'm very tempted but I want the squad to be able to blend in with the rest of my Dark Angels chapter for when I use them en masse in big games, so it depends on how those test models turn out.

    2. Oh yeah , I get it, you sure do not want to try a new look if you already have a full army!
By the way, I've seen this technique this we on Khorne Juggernauts sprayed gold from the top on a brown basecoat with a red wash which gave in few minutes the most convincing metallic red I've ever seen, a few highlights, eyes and details and the babies were good for the field, very impressive...

(oh and damn it's good not to have to enter captcha rubbish...)

    3. It certainly has lots of potential, can't wait to give it a try and get experimenting.

Yeah, captcha sucks. When I set the blog up I was convinced there were hordes of Russian and Chinese spammers just waiting to tell me about an 'excite new innovate'. Turns out I was being paranoid.

  6. Great terrain. Looking forward to seeing them in a battle report. Those old marines will look good navigating that alien Flora.

    1. Thanks Liam! I have a few battle reports stacked up actually, must pull my finger out. I haven't let anyone use marines in a game of RT yet, I'm making 'encouraging' them to be aware of all the many other possibilities first. I have some 80's Orks that alongside the marines would make for a classic game though, watch this space.

    1. It has been tough, food is usually the one thing I can rely on. When I run the RT game at the club tonight it might be more Lovecraftian than usual as a result of too much salad!

    1. Thanks for the compliment and welcome aboard! I found you because somebody else I follow copied your mid-year progress report and linked back to you. Genuinely horrified by the temperatures you've been enduring out there!
