Lord Savage and the Seahawks (all of them).

As promised and only a week late; the whole of Lord Savage's Slaaneshi warband. Ready for the Oldhammer weekend no less!

The Seahawks, roaming the wastes searching for some fine booty.

The 'Enthralled', a Beastman Slaanesh-worship cult.

The big man (elf) himself, Lord Dibdin Savage.

The 'Corsairs', Savage's original crew and his first followers.

The 'Bloodlusters', an Ogre unit consisting of Vigareux and Grollo.

Overall, I'm pleased with the results. I can speed paint or I can paint to a respectable standard, not both. I have tried to make as much time as possible for these guys and I actually like the current look very much. My freehand needs a lot more work, it's a very new skill so that's to be expected I suppose. I have never been able to draw and have never painted detail on a flat surface, ever. These shields and banners are the first attempts and are as good as it gets for this year but I like having something to aim for so I will keep banging away until I get the hang of it.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. What a wonderful looking warband. I look forwards to GMing them and ensuring that they are slaughtered for the whims of their uncaring masters. The RoC event is going to look fantastic with models like these!

    1. Thanks very much Orlygg, also thank you for that brilliant post all those months back that inspired me to do this in the first place.

  2. OH yeah ! Don't get me wrong, I love them so much I want to crush'em with my Nurgle followers! You've found a very good compromise between the good painting standard for the most important characters and a more time efficient on others. I also applause you trying new technique. Staying in our confort zone is definitely a progress killer.
Hope to battle and drink with you some time ;)

    1. I hope we get a chance to game at an Oldhammer event some time in the future, then throw a few beers back! Thanks for the encouragement.

    1. Thanks Suber, The minis have so much character that I wanted to try and enhance that with the painting as much as I'm able. Glad you like them.

    1. There has been a lot of smack talk and it seems like there's a queue forming to take me on but I will try to cut a path in your direction!

    3. You're not allowed to take that much pleasure in your work, unless you're secretly a bit Slaanesh yourself? Khorne demands his champions merely take a grim satisfaction in a job well done. ;)

    1. Thanks Erny, glad you enjoyed them. These were the first Beastmen I ever bought, I don't know why, maybe I never rolled them up before? Good to have them back on the tabletop again!

    1. Why thank you, it just wouldn't do if those lumpen, Khornate oafs were turned out in better duds than than us Slaaneshites!

    1. Cheers Matthew! That was an aim so it's pleasing to have it commented on!

There will be more than a couple of photos taken I'm sure.

  8. Great looking Warband. I think your free hand stuff looks good. I like to think that when painting these things we need to consider whose doing it. A mutated goat is probably going to paint a pretty rough looking shield. And who knows if they can even sew enough to make a banner?

    1. A very astute point! If the drawings of my buddies and I from our school days are anything to go by, a horny, Slaaneshi goat-man is probably going to just paint a massive c**k on his shield!

All the same, while I'm not going for a Blance-esque, photo-real tiger face; I do want to develop the skill a little further and make it look like a Beastman has done because that's my technique (instead of because I paint freehand like I'm in an earthquake...).

  9. Great looking classic minis! Your Lord Savage is one of my favorites.. I had this dark elf (mine was on a cold one) long ago in my first army. Wish I knew what happened to those minis. Enjoyed your blog mission statement. Our game group often ends up having a game master run a game/scenario and it is a definite advantage to a smooth and fun game.

    1. Thank you kindly Mr Ferret! Welcome!

I have posted the mounted Elf-Lord a few times in various states of preparedness and he always attracts lots of comments, he is just a fantastic miniature. When I researched him I discovered he was repackaged with a Cold One and the Dragonhorse disappeared!

I suspect there are a lot of lost, hidden treasure troves of miniatures scattered about the country in the attics and sheds of the UK!

Very glad you guys are keeping the GM role alive, it's such a lost art elsewhere. I continue with my quest to bring it back though...
